The East Anglia DRS Programme

The East Anglia Diabetic Retinal Screening (DRS) Programme serves over 90,000 patients with diabetes across six PCTs and 233 GP Practices. The programme is managed and maintained with help and in collaboration with your GP Practice.

Formed on the 1st April 2011, the East Anglia DRS Programme has increased the number screening sites available across the region to ensure wider choices of venues are offered to patients. These venues now include screening from a number of hospitals, GP Practices and Community Optometry Practices.

As part of the East Anglia DRS Programme, new state of the art computer system and camera equipment has been deployed to ensure high quality retinal images, resulting in higher standards of grading and the tracking of all patients through the screening programme.

This service is completely free of charge to patients as part of the national screening programme and appointments for screening can only be booked via the East Anglia DRS Programme. Our new appointment booking service also means that for the first time, patients can book a screening appointment at any of the screening sites within the screening service region and can also be referred to any one of the nine participating hospital services.

For patients with diabetes, it is important to attend an annual Diabetic Retinal Screening appointment. The screening service helps to identify patients who could lose their sight due to diabetes, which is the largest cause of blindness in the adult population. This annual screening is in addition to any eye examination; undertaken by your Hospital Eye Service or your local Community Optometrist. If in doubt please consult your GP Practice for advice.

As part of our on-going evaluation and delivery of this service, patients are invited to complete a questionnaire when attending a screening clinic. Patients can also contact us direct via the Booking Office with your comments at East Anglia DRS Booking Office, Unit 5, Hillside Business Park, Kempson Way, Morton Hall, Bury St Edmunds, IP32 7EA, Tel: (01284) 848418, Fax: (01284) 725763, Email: enquiries@eadrs.com
